Port State Control (PSC) is increasingly active on a world-wide basis in meeting their commitment to combat against sub-standard shipping. They will continue to take measures to improve and enhance PSC activities, to ensure compliance with applicable requirements for safety, pollution prevention and manning conditions on board. Several ships are detained and cannot leave the port until reported serious/detainable deficiencies have been rectified. This implies possible delay and financial losses to ship operators.
In addition, detained ships are made public on the web and in the press resulting in loss of
reputation for all parties involved. Multiple detentions will have a severe impact to the ability of a
ship and its company to trade unhindered.
